Frame and casing – Most cooling towers are designed with structural frames that support the casings, fans, motors, and other components. Fill – In most of the models, they use fills that are made of wood or plastic to initiate heat transfer by maximizing air contact and water. Manufacturers use either splash type of fill or film type of fill in the cooling tower. Cold water basin – It is located at or near the tower bottom. Cold water basin receives the cooled water that flows down across the fill and tower. Drift eliminators – These drift eliminators catch water droplets entrapped inside the air stream that would be lost to the environment. Louvers – Cross flow cooling towers contain inlet louvers. These components are used to equalize air flow inside the fill and retain the water within the tower. There are many counter flow cooling towers that don’t need louvers. Air Inlet – This is the entry point for the air. Air enters to the tower through air inlet. Nozzles – Nozzles offer water sprays to wet the fill. These parts can be fixed in place and have square or round spray patterns or can be fixed to the rotating assembly as found in some circular cross-section towers.
